Just in the knick of time, as Charleston Wine + Food begins and Spring is making its appearance, we’ve launched our seasonal cocktail menu. With 20 new cocktails, including 4 large format punches for sharing, here’s a look at what to expect when you drop¬†in. View The Gin Joint’s Spring¬†menu here.

It’s going to be dangerously easy to get into the holiday spirit¬†this year. Beginning Friday after Thanksgiving (November 25), The Gin Joint will transform into Miracle, an over-the-top Christmas¬†themed pop-up bar.

We’ve become known for an¬†intimate atmosphere and sophisticated cocktails, but for one month only, everything will change. We’ll let our hair down, put on our¬†tacky Christmas sweaters and spread some serious Christmas cheer. For the month leading up to Christmas,¬†expect to enter a Gin Joint¬†fully decked with kitschy holiday decor and strings of¬†lights, and serving themed cocktails and holiday snacks like Chex Mix.¬†[You serious, Clark? Yes, Cousin¬†Eddie‚Ķ we’re serious.]

The concept was launched in 2014 as Miracle on 9th Street by Greg Boem, the owner of Cocktail Kingdom, at Mace, a serious, spice-focused¬†New York City cocktail bar. This year, Miracle expanded its cocktail cheer across the globe, partnering with us¬†and more than 30 other renowned bars worldwide to recreate the original concept. Other Miracle outposts are located in Montreal, London, Paris, Los Angeles, Seattle and more, but we’ll¬†be the only South Carolina location.

The season‚Äôs cocktail menu starting November 25 and running through New Year’s¬†Eve features cups of cheer with names like Santa-quila, Christmapolitan and Muletide, served over snow balls, in Santa mugs or perhaps garnished with pine needles.

And, yes¬†‚Ästas always, you can still order¬†Bartender’s Choice, where you choose any two descriptors from our word bank, and the bartender serves up¬†a¬†cocktail that fits the bill.

In town for BevCon Charleston? Sunday, August 21, 2016,¬†BevCon‚ĄĘ Charleston will take¬†over the streets of Charleston, and¬†eight of East Bay Street’s hottest bars and restaurants will welcome some of the best bartenders, distillers, brewers and wine professionals in the country¬†to take over for the night.

We are quite excited to have Miles Macquarrie from The Kimball House in Decatur, Georgia, take over The Gin Joint’s bar for the night. You’ll find Macquarrie behind the bar with The Gin Joint ringleader¬†Joe Raya and beverage director James Bolt. Sunday, from 9:00 to midnight, The Gin Joint menu will transform into a Kimball House and Gin Joint collaboration ‚ÄĒ a collection of well thought out Cuban inspired cocktails, themed Cuba libre, using Barr Hill Gin. The cocktail session will celebrate¬†the beginning of the lifting of the embargo.

Negroni Week starts Monday, June 6!¬†Negroni Week, presented by Imbibe Magazine and Campari, is¬†a celebration of one of the world‚Äôs great cocktails ‚ÄĒ Gin, Campari and Vermouth‚ÄĒ and an effort to raise money for charitable causes around the world. For each Negroni ordered at a participating bar or restaurant, a portion of proceeds go to a charitable organization.

This year, The Gin Joint has joined in Negroni Week! $2 of any of the five Negronis on the menu, ordered from June 6-12, will go to The Giving Kitchen, a nonprofit supporting our food & beverage neighbors in Atlanta, Georgia.

Did you see? A¬†Gin Joint original made Liquor.com‘s monthly list of 11 New Cocktails to Drink in Bars Right Now! Scoot over to the slideshow to find what 11 cocktails made the list alongside the Village Idiot.

New to the Spring menu, the Village Idiot is surprisingly refreshing. Made with¬†Plantation 3 Star Rum, Diplomatico Rum,¬†Meyer Lemon Sherbet, Lemon, Egg White, and Duck Fat Powder, it’s¬†a cocktail that reveals layers of complexity to those interested.

In classic cocktail making, sherbet is an acidified oleo saccharum.¬†(Oleo saccharums are bright¬†citrus syrups made from¬†saturating fresh citrus peel¬†in sugar to express its natural oils. Here’s an example of an oleo saccharum, made by Tippleman’s)¬†We make our sherbet for this cocktail using Meyer lemons, hand peeled and saturated in organic cane sugar, then and add the juice of the Meyer lemons, which in the cocktail gives more unique lemon flavor from the peel than using juice alone. The duck fat powder emulsifies when shaken, changing the viscosity of the drink and¬†giving the golden drink a¬†frothy top.

Ronnie McDonnie Cocktail at The Gin Joint

Throughout the month of February, The Gin Joint is featuring¬†a cocktail¬†to benefit the Ronald McDonald House of Charleston. All profits¬†from the cocktail we’ve playfully called the¬†‚ÄúRonnie McDonnie‚ÄĚ will go to the organization that provides a home¬†away from home for families while their children undergo extensive medical treatment.

Created by our beverage director James Bolt, the cocktail features chile-infused mezcal, along with Aperol, lime juice and salted honey for a unique, yet approachable take on a smoky margarita. The drink’s red hue, given by the bittersweet aperitif Aperol, was inspired by Ronald McDonald’s signature red shoes [which you also find on display inside].

Our crew has loved supporting the local Ronald McDonald House in the past by cooking and serving  meals for families staying in the home. Now, we want to give people a feel-good reason to come enjoy a cocktail… or two.

On the menu from February 1st through 28th, the ‚ÄúRonnie McDonnie‚ÄĚ cocktail is $10, and ALL¬†proceeds of the drink go to the Ronald McDonald House of Charleston. See what else is on the seasonal cocktail menu here.
